Who is Khatu Shyam ji?

Khatu Shyam ji is the Kaliyugi incarnation of Lord Shri Krishna. In the Mahabharata war, Barbarik, the grandson of Bhima, pleased Mahadev with his bravery and sacrifice. Then Lord Krishna gave him a boon that in Kalyug his name would be known as ‘Shyam’ and he would be worshiped in the hearts of his devotees. Khatu is his famous abode in Sikar district of Rajasthan. He is revered and remembered by many names including “Hare Ka Sahara”, “Lakhdatar”, and “Shyam Sarkar”.

Khatu Shyam Chalisa

Khatu Shyam Chalisa is a collection of praises dedicated to Lord Shyam. Devotees strongly believe that by reciting this Chalisa, their wishes are fulfilled, troubles go away, and Shyam Baba’s immense blessings are showered upon them.

संसारी सुख भोग मिलेगा ।
अंत श्याम सुख योग मिलेगा ॥

श्याम प्रभु हैं तन के काले ।
मन के गोरे भोले-भाले ॥

श्याम संत भक्तन हितकारी ।
रोग-दोष अध नाशे भारी ॥

प्रेम सहित जब नाम पुकारा ।
भक्त लगत श्याम को प्यारा ॥

खाटू में हैं मथुरावासी ।
पारब्रह्म पूर्ण अविनाशी ॥

सुधा तान भरि मुरली बजाई ।
चहु दिशि जहां सुनी पाई ॥

वृद्ध-बाल जेते नारि नर ।
मुग्ध भये सुनि बंशी स्वर ॥

हड़बड़ कर सब पहुंचे जाई ।
खाटू में जहां श्याम कन्हाई ॥

जिसने श्याम स्वरूप निहारा ।
भव भय से पाया छुटकारा ॥

Importance of Khatu Shyam Chalisa

Khatu Shyam is a collection of hymns dedicated to Chalisa. Devotees strongly believe that by reciting this Chalisa:

• Wishes are fulfilled:  Shyam Baba removes the difficulties of the devotees and fulfills all their legitimate wishes.
• Gets relief from troubles:  By becoming the support of the defeated, Khatu Shyam rescues the devotees from the challenges of their life.
• Baba’s blessings are showered:  Through Chalisa we connect with Shyam Baba and receive his divine blessings.
• The mind gets peace:  Recitation of Chalisa increases the feeling of devotion and brings immense peace and positivity in the mind.

Method of reciting Khatu Shyam Chalisa

1. Purification:  Taking bath and wearing clean clothes is considered auspicious.
2. Place of worship:  Install the idol or picture of Khatu Shyam Baba in the home temple or a clean place.
3. Lamp and incense:  Light a ghee lamp and make the atmosphere devotional with incense or incense sticks.
4. Offer:  Offer flowers, water, sweets etc. to Shyam Baba with devotion.
5. Start reciting:  Start reciting Khatu Shyam Chalisa with full concentration and devotion.
6. Aarti and Prasad:  On completion of the lesson, perform Aarti of Khatu Shyam ji and prepare Prasad to distribute.

Best time to read:

Actually, you can chant Khatu Shyam Chalisa any day. But its recitation is considered especially fruitful during Ekadashi Tithi and Khatu Shyam Fair.

A grand Khatu Shyam fair is organized in Khatu village of Sikar from Ekadashi to Dwadashi of Shukla Paksha of Phalgun month. Lakhs of devotees from all over the country come to worship Baba Shyam.
